Back at Sneha

We are back to teaching at Sneha Child Center, and it is a joy to be with our little friends again. The older children have been moved to different orphanages, separated into boys and girls homes. The younger ones remain, and they too have become bigger in the last couple of years. They are old enough for us to teach, and they learn with such enthusiasm. By the end of the class, we are all covered in chalk! And they have all learned a new letter!

Christmas/Farewell Party Photos

The volunteers of the Street Child Project and the kids at Sneha Child Development Centre had a great time at Majestic City & KFC as we said goodbye to an amazing group of kids. These kids will leave the centre by the end of January in order to start school and will be placed in different orphanages in and around Sri Lanka, as the centre cares for orphans below the age of 6.

Christmas Party - Kids at Sneha

The Street Child Project is planning a Christmas Party for the children at Sneha Child Centre. The older kids would soon be leaving the orphanage as they need to attend school starting January, and have to be placed in different homes geared for older orphans. Currently, Sneha cares for orphans below the age of 6. This will be our goodbye/farewell party as well, as the courts and Child Probation Services are unwilling to reveal information of children once they leave a particular orphange. There are 12 children. The cost per child will be 400LKR. If anyone is interested in sponsoring 1 child, contact us by email on thestreetchildproject@gmail.com or message us on FB.

Sneha Centre - An Update

We were back at Sneha Child Development Centre for the fourth week running. The chaos has considerably lessened and the children seem to enjoy seeing us come back every week. In fact, they exclaim in delight, "You've come back to teach us". So here's something we learnt about one of the kids at the centre. A beautiful little girl, just 4 years old with no mother and a drug addict for a father was removed from her home due to unsuitable living conditions and placed at Sneha a couple of years ago. The father has never visited her once since she was removed from her own home. In the meantime, a childless couple had shown great interest in adopting this little girl. They had started legal adoption proceedings and had almost come to the end of it, when the biological father, still her legal guardian, demanded 1.5 million rupees in exchange of terminating his parental rights. This man had placed a price tag on his child. The adoption proceedings were immediately stopped by the couple who were devastated, but not willing to give in to the demands of a drug addict wanting to swap his daughter for a couple of million. This story is heartbreaking, but it has made us more determined to continue serving underpriviledged children in our community.
